First Appearance: October 20th, 2017
The original DTH (an initialism for Dark Terran Holes), now known as Alien Dots post was the result of the remnant of a picture copied and pasted onto Twitter, though it would not be until December 1st where the true origin of the DTH surfaced. Intended to be a sort of ARG (alternate reality game, or a narrative that changes based on audience interaction), the twitter profile pic, originally that of the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic character Pinkie Pie in pajamas, was altered to place sunglasses, fidget spinners, and misplaced text on and around it. Declaring a rebrand to focus on gaming news, tweets talked nonstop about a ‘new game’. Though the game was never explicitly mentioned, the Alien Dots would appear, sometimes on their own, and sometimes in groups. While the attitude towards the unnamed game would change, the Dots remained constant, and every day, a new Dot would be placed on the profile pic. As posts became more and more esoteric and stilted, the letters ‘D’, ‘T’, and ‘H’ would be capitalized, hinting at their true form.
The ARG was stopped, due to inactivity, on January 14th of the following year, and the ‘plot’ was revealed. Using a tweet commenting that the Dots look like aliens and a tweet which only consisted of ‘dth’ as inspiration, the ARG would involve ACS being abducted by aliens which have taken over their twitter. Having learnt English through gaming journalism, the Dots would constantly comment about games while flooding the twitter page with their image. Over time, the hints to their identities would become more prevalent, and only when somebody commented on a tweet with the truth would the ARG be ‘won’. Nowadays, the Dots very rarely show up, and are usually posted only for a throwaway gag.
